Da Nang tourism authorities are investigating a complaint by a Thai visitor that a tourist taxi driver charged her 2.5 times the negotiated fare.

She had written about it on social media, saying she had booked the car for VND1.5 million (US$61) for traveling from her downtown hotel to Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra Peninsula, Ba Na Hills and Hoi An city, according to Da Nang police's portal.

But the driver later insisted that she should pay VND3.8 million, she alleged.

She said she was "shocked" by what he did.

She also uploaded a photo of the driver’s car with a yellow license plate, and this caught the eye of officials at the Department of Tourism in the central city.

On Monday city transport officials decided to ban the car from transporting passengers until the investigation is complete.

Earlier this year a man in Da Nang was fined VND11 million for impersonating a taxi driver and charging a South Korean tourist 10 times the usual fare.
