Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC has requested permission from HCMC authorities to retain a taxi buffer space open in anticipation of the holidays in late April.

The airport served 80,000-95,000 passengers a day during the Lunar New Year holiday, and anticipates handling an average of 52,000 passengers per day during the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) and Labor Day (May 1) holidays.

Vietnamese will enjoy a five-day break, from April 29 to May 3, as the Hung Kings anniversary celebration falling on April 29, which is a Saturday, and people are entitled to take two extra days off the following week to compensate for that and the Reunification Day on Sunday.

Nguyen Nam Tien, deputy director of the airport, said that even during the busiest days of the Lunar New Year, there were still enough taxis to accommodate all passengers thanks to the buffer space, Tuoi Tre reported.

The Southern Airport Authority's temporary taxi area on a 3,500-square-meter plot of land next to the international terminal's entrance and the corner of Bach Dang, Truong Son, and Hong Ha streets in Tan Binh District made a significant contribution to ensuring a sufficient supply of taxis, Tien said.
