"Experiencing a 7.7-magnitude earthquake for the first time and carrying my daughter down 21 storeys of the emergency staircase was not on my bucket list," the 31-year-old wrote on Instagram shortly after the quake on March 28.
"Thankfully, we are safe," Tan said, thanking the Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok hotel for handling the situation well.
He shared a 25-second video showing himself carrying his five-year-old daughter while running down the stairs of the hotel.
Located in the heart of Bangkok, the five-star hotel features over 230 rooms and suites, as well as an infinity pool overlooking the Langsuan urban oasis.
The earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday afternoon, with tremors strongly felt in Bangkok and other parts of Vietnam and China.
Many foreign tourists in Bangkok were left shaken as tremors swayed high-rise buildings, cracked walls, and caused water to spill from rooftop swimming pools.
Tan recalled that the chandelier and clothes hangers in his hotel room shook violently, and he also heard people shouting outside the room, Shin Min Daily reported.
He said his family originally wanted to hide under the table in the room, but they were worried about aftershocks.
He added that they flew back to Singapore that night, but the ride to the airport took four hours due to heavy traffic.
