Searches for accommodations on Phu Quoc increased by 266%, far outpacing Da Nang (119%) and Nha Trang (104%), based on Agoda's booking search data collected from Nov. 27 to Dec. 21, 2024, with check-in dates between Jan. 25 and Feb. 2, 2025.
Tet, marking the start of the Year of the Snake, begins on Jan. 29.
During the New Year holiday, Phu Quoc was crowded with an influx of foreign tourists in stark contrast to quieter scenes across most of the rest of Vietnam.
Vietnam's largest island, voted the world's second most beautiful by readers of the American magazine Travel + Leisure after the Maldives, generated over VND21.17 trillion ($831.75 million) in tourism revenue in 2024.
This accounted for more than 84% of the total turnover in Kien Giang Province's tourism sector.
According to data from the island city's People's Committee, Phu Quoc welcomed over 5.9 million tourists in 2024, a 7.1% increase compared to the previous year. Among them were 963,000 international visitors.
