Bangkok was once again named the No.1 city worldwide for international arrivals after it welcomed 30.3 million visitors this year, according to global market research company Euromonitor International.

Hong Kong came in second with 23.2 million visitors, followed by London with 22.7 million and Macao with 20.4 million.

Istanbul rounded out the top five with 19.7 million.

The rest of top 10 were Dubai (19.5 million), Mecca (18.7 million), Antalya (18.6 million), Paris (18.3 million) and Kuala Lumpur (17.3 million).

Bangkok's friendly visa policies, including a 60-day visa exemption for citizens of 93 countries, has played a significant role in boosting its appeal.

"Rising security concerns, growing tourism flows, overtourism and inflationary pressures" are behind the decision by several destinations to revise entry fees and speed up the adoption of electronic travel authorization systems, which will influence the long-term tourism appeal of cities, says Euromonitor International.

The report ranks cities on criteria including tourism, sustainability, economic performance and health and safety.

Last year, Euromonitor International named Bangkok the world's top tourism city after it welcomed a record-breaking 32.4 million visitors.
