Thailand, Vietnam among world's 10 friendliest countries for tourists

Thailand ranked third with a score of 94.37, while Vietnam secured ninth place with 90 points, according to the annual Readers' Choice Awards survey, which asks travelers to rate countries based on factors such as culture, attractions, cuisine, and overall experience.

"Thai people have a reputation for wholeheartedly welcoming visitors into their culture, demonstrated by the announcement of visa-free entry for 93 countries earlier this year," the magazine noted.

"Whether haggling at Bangkok's unique floating markets or diving among the turtles and coral reefs of Koh Tao island, travelers can expect a warm reception as they explore the country's many wonders," it added.

Many tourists praised Vietnam as a friendly country, where locals in rural villages open homestay facilities and greet guests with open arms.

"The street food scene also caters to travelers, known for its traditional recipes at budget-friendly prices, while Vietnam's distinctive 'sidewalk culture' immerses passersby in a close-knit community," the magazine said.

Thailand has welcomed nearly 27 million foreign tourists this year, a 30% increase year-on-year, supported by favorable visa policies.

Meanwhile, Vietnam saw 12.7 million international arrivals from January to September, surpassing last year's total.

Costa Rica was voted the world's friendliest country, followed by New Zealand.

More than 575,000 readers participated in the survey, sharing insights on travel experiences across cities, islands, hotels, resorts, cruise ships, spas, and airlines.

The Readers' Choice Awards, the longest-running honor in the travel industry, recognize excellence in hotels, resorts, and destinations worldwide.
