US, Canada, Australia dominate list of world's most boring tourist attractions

The world's most boring attraction was the Branson Scenic Railway, followed by the Illuminarium, both in the U.S.

The U.S. topped the list with 62 representatives, followed by Canada with 10 and Australia with seven.

The Branson Scenic Railway, a heritage railroad in Missouri State, departs from an old depot in downtown Branson and operates in the scenic Ozark Mountains for an approximate 64 km round trip.

Solitaired said it compiled the list of the world's 100 most boring tourist attractions based on Google reviews.

The list was drawn up by an analysis of 66.7 million Google reviews of 3,290 popular tourist attractions worldwide, spanning 384 cities across 71 countries.

Analysts calculated a boredom score for each tourist attraction by focusing on 11 keywords indicative of tiresome, lifeless and boring impressions, to determine the least interesting places.

Two Southeast Asian destinations appearing on the list were Hanoi's Thang Long Water Puppet Theater and Penang's Fort Cornwallis.

Located right in the famous Hanoi Old Quarter and in front of the ancient Sword Lake, the Thang Long Water Puppet Theater is a tourist destination that offers unique performances telling historical stories through the use of traditional puppets on water.

In 2010, the theater was recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

On Tripadvisor, many foreign tourists praised the site as "a very tourist oriented experience."

Fort Cornwallis, a bastion fort in Penang built in the late 18th century, ranked 63rd with a score of 2 points.

It is Malaysia's oldest and largest fort, with entry fees costing RM20 for foreigners.
