The Philippines has outshone seven other nominees, including Indonesia and Singapore, to be crowned "Asia's leading island destination" at this year's World Travel Awards.

This marks the first time the country, with its more than 7,000 islands, has claimed this title. Last year, Singapore held the distinction.

With a coastline stretching over 36,000 kilometers, the Philippines is renowned for its beach tourism, driven by its tropical climate and unique geography.

This year, the Philippines was also voted Asia's leading dive destination, boasting 311 listed dive sites across the country, and Asia's leading beach destination.

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognize excellence in the travel and tourism industry and are often referred to as the "Oscars of the travel industry." These annual awards are determined by votes from both travel industry professionals and the public.
