Five luxury camping destinations in Vietnam

Camping is often aligned with a lack of comfort as campers have to prepare tents, tables and chairs, cooking utensils and food supplies while the outdoors might be swarming with mosquitoes, or you may have to jump up and escape your tent at midnight as rainwater seeps inside.

But a new trend called glamping, a luxury type of camping that includes facilities and accommodation considered far more comfortable than traditional camping, is fast catching on.

One of the most popular glamping destinations in Vietnam is Tanyoli tourist area of Son Hai Village in Thuan Nam District, about 30 kilometers from Phan Rang-Thap Chap, capital of the south central Ninh Thuan Province.

Covering 15 hectares, the tourist area is dubbed a ‘steppe’ and characterized by a Mongolian village surrounded by yurts strewn amid the green grassland. Here visitors can get a taste of the nomadic lifestyle and try different outdoor activities like archery and horseback riding.

A 30-meter-square tent can accommodate from two to six people. It is equipped with air conditioner and modern furniture that help you escape the sizzling weather in Ninh Thuan. Visitors need to pay VND350,000 - 1.3 million ($15.25 – 56.64) to hire a tent for a night.

Sandwiched between the country’s two famous resort towns Nha Trang and Mui Ne, Ninh Thuan is known to have the driest weather in Vietnam, with a short monsoon season between September and November.

Coco Beachcamp Lagi, Binh Thuan

Another great glamping choice is CoCo Beachcamp in Lagi Town, around 90 kilometers from Phan Thiet, capital of Binh Thuan Province which borders Ninh Thuan.

Located along Cam Binh Beach, which has retained its pristine beauty and evaded the tourism boom, the campsite offers tents designed with two layers of protective canvas and capable of resisting UV, water, and fire.

Each tent equipped with portable air conditioners has a capacity of two people. The rental price is from VND200,000 to 250,000 per person depending on the check-in date.

In addition to sleeping in a tent and watching the blue sea amid coconut trees, visitors can also enjoy the specialties of the Lagi beach with a BBQ party and live music as well as enjoy outdoor activities like kite flying and paddleboarding.

Another popular glamping site is CampArt, a 2,000-square-meter area next to Suoi Vang Lake, around 15 km from downtown Da Lat, a popular chilly resort town in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

Its capacity is limited to only 30 guests per day, with different kinds of tents surrounded by a pine forest and located far from one another for privacy.

CampArt prepares everything from tents, blankets, pillows, torches to food like steak, smoked goose breast, spaghetti, mushroom soup, drinks and breakfast.

Since the nights in Da Lat are typically cold, visitors should dress warmly and bear in mind the toilets are located at a distance from the campsite itself. The price for renting a tent is VND890,000 per person.

Twin Beans Farm, Lam Dong

Located on a coffee farm in Da Sar Commune of Lac Duong District, about 20 km from downtown Da Lat, this camping resort is surrounded by green pine forests and streams.

The resort offers waterproof tents and blankets for four people per tent. The campsite is fully equipped with toilets, hot showers, hair dryers, towels, shampoo and shower gel. Grilled BBQ dinners include sturgeon, chicken, pork, potatoes, corn, salad, fried rice, a coal stove and firewood.

While staying in the glamping resort, visitors can walk in the forest, bathe in the streams and visit the coffee garden in the early morning. The cost per tent is VND700,000 a head, and VND500,000 for children.

Lak Tented Camp, Dak Lak Province

In the nearby Dak Lak Province, Lak Tented campsite in Lien Son Town of Lak District is nestled on a small hill surrounded by the tranquil Lak Lake, the second largest in Vietnam after Ba Be in the north.

The campsite offers just 15 safari-style tents, four luxury lakeside bungalows, a dorm, and a restaurant in a handsome wooden longhouse – only accessible by boat.

Situated between the newly established UNESCO-recognized Dak Nong Geopark and Chu Yang Sin National Park, the area is rich in natural attractions and cultural heritage, including many ethnic minority villages.

Once voted by U.K. travel site Rough Guides as the ideal camping spot in Southeast Asia, Lak Tented Camp offers visitors interesting activities like exploring the Lak Lake by boat, fishing, and mountain biking.

Each tent can accommodate up to two guests, at VND850,000 per person.
