5 Southeast Asian cities among Asia's cheapest spring destinations: Agoda

Vietnam's Phong Nha, Thailand's Hat Yai, Indonesia's Padang, the Philippines' Bacolod, and Malaysia's Kuala Terengganu have been named among the cheapest spring destinations in Asia by travel platform Agoda.

Phong Nha City, located in the central province of Quang Binh, topped the list with average hotel room rates costing just US$28.

Known for its breathtaking caves and lush landscapes, Phong Nha is a haven for nature lovers. Visitors can explore the UNESCO-listed Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, home to some of the world's largest caves, or enjoy a tranquil boat ride along the Son River.

The area also offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, and immersing in local culture.

Located in southern Thailand near the Malaysian border, Hat Yai ranked third with an average room rate of $40.

The city is a popular destination during the spring months, especially as Thailand celebrates Songkran and other holidays. Hat Yai is famous for its bustling markets, tasty street food, and proximity to nearby beaches and islands, making it a versatile destination for spring.

Padang in Indonesia ranked fourth with average room rates of $40.

Known for its rich culinary heritage, Padang is a paradise for food enthusiasts, offering iconic dishes like Rendang and Sate Padang. Visitors can also explore stunning beaches such as Air Manis Beach or take a short trip to the Mentawai Islands for surfing and snorkeling. The city's rich history and cultural landmarks add to its appeal.

Bacolod in the Philippines ranked fifth at $46.

Known as the "City of Smiles," Bacolod offers a warm welcome and a laid-back atmosphere. Travelers can explore historical landmarks like The Ruins, a grand mansion from the early 1900s, or enjoy the city's renowned food scene, including its famous chicken inasal.

Kuala Terengganu in Malaysia ranked sixth with room rates at $48.

The city boasts beautiful beaches, traditional crafts, and lively markets. Visitors can explore the iconic Crystal Mosque or take a boat ride to nearby Redang Island for snorkeling and diving. The city's rich cultural heritage, including its batik-making traditions, offers a unique experience for travelers.

To compile the ranking, Agoda analyzed average room rates across 20 destinations per market based on accommodation bookings. The analysis included reservations made in January and February 2025 for stays between April 1 and May 31, 2025.
