The visitors were found carrying fake passports or not holding valid visas, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Vietnam currently exempts visas for citizens of 25 countries including major tourism markets such as Japan and South Korea.

CAAV said the increased number of passengers denied entry has caused damage to airlines which are mainly responsible for sending them back to the place of departure.

In addition, this also created pressure on Vietnamese airports where refused passengers have to wait for their return flight, triggering potential risks of aviation security and safety.

In 2020, there were 506 foreigners being refused entry into Vietnam while the figure was 404 in 2022 and 886 last year, according to CAAV.

To reduce the number of passengers being denied entry, aviation authorities have required airlines operating regular international flights to Vietnam to strictly check documents of passengers entering or transiting in Vietnam.
