Airlines in Malaysia have confirmed there were no flight cancelations following the powerful earthquake that struck central Myanmar and affected neighboring countries including Thailand and Vietnam on Friday.

AirAsia has confirmed that its daily flights to Myanmar and Thailand, where tremors were also felt, are operating as scheduled, according to Bernama.

Batik Air Malaysia also reassured that no flights were canceled, though the airline experienced minor delays due to the earthquake. However, operations have since returned to normal.

Both airlines said they are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates if necessary.

Malaysia Airlines likewise reported no disruptions to its flight operations following the quake, The Star reported.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar on Friday afternoon, toppling buildings, injuring hundreds, and sending tremors as far as Thailand and Vietnam.

The quake, which struck near the city of Sagaing at around 1:20 p.m. Hanoi time, was followed minutes later by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Myanmar authorities have confirmed at least 144 deaths and more than 700 injuries in the aftermath. Nine other people died in Thailand, including eight in the collapse of a skyscraper under construction in Bangkok.

Malaysia welcomed 38 million visitor arrivals that year, including 13 million excursionists, a 31.1% year-on-year increase and an 8.3% rise compared to pre-Covid levels in 2019.
