After being canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19, the biennial Hue festival returns from June 25 to 30 and is expected to attract 200,000 visitors.

The festival in the central town will feature street carnivals, art performances and cultural programs to tell tourists how Hue has come a long way from being the imperial capital of Vietnam's last ruling family to a rising tourism star.

The opening ceremony will take place at Ngo Mon Square in front of the Imperial Citadel on June 25.

Dance troupes from France, Belgium and Israel will take part this year.

The Hue Imperial Citadel, which witnessed the rise and fall of the Nguyen Dynasty, the last ruling family, will be open at night from June 28 to 30.

In 2017 Hue authorities introduced a night walking tour inside the royal citadel, but suspended it later due to weather conditions.

The Hue festival is one of the country's largest tourism events.
