Tiet canh is a Vietnamese dish made from animal blood mixed with fish sauce and seasoned meat, which coagulates into a gelatinous pudding. It is often served on special occasions like big family gatherings. Despite concerns over food safety, it remains popular and has not been officially banned.
This is not the first time the dish has been criticized. In March 2024, TasteAtlas released a list of the 45 worst-rated Vietnamese dishes by international visitors, where it ranked second, following mung bean cakes (banh dau xanh).
Topping the 2025 list is blodplattar, a blood pancake from Sweden which is also popular in Finland and Norway. Despite being considered nutritious by locals, it has received low ratings from international tourists due to its preparation.
Blodplattar are pancakes made by mixing reindeer blood with barley flour, though modern versions use different animal blood, spices, or mashed potatoes. The dish is served with sautéed onions, diced bacon, fried pork, butter, and lingonberry jam.
Some Asian dishes in the list include Thailand's deep-fried silk worms ranking 5th, Cambodia's fried spiders ranking 23rd, and China's Cantonese mooncake ranking 25th.
