The second Krong Pak Durian Festival in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak offered 9 tons of fresh durian to visitors for free from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.

The festival attracted over 200,000 visitors, more than three times against the first edition in 2022, local authorities said.

Coming to the festival, visitors had the opportunity to visit durian gardens, enjoy the fruit for free, and learn about the process of producing this billion-dollar fruit, whose export brought Vietnam approximately US$1.7 billion between January and July, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Krong Pak District prepared more than six hectares of durian gardens for the event.

With its agricultural advantages and diverse cultural identity featuring 35 ethnic groups, Krong Pak plans to introduce the durian orchard tour as a new tourism offering.

The district currently has about 8,000 hectares of durian, accounting for one-third of the province's total area.

The first edition of the durian festival was held in 2022, attracting 60,000 domestic and foreign visitors.

Durian, nicknamed the king of fruits, is renowned for its unique flavor and aroma and is a popular delicacy in Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam.

Malaysia's tourism industry recently unveiled 62 new durian tour packages with prices costing up to US$960, allowing tourists to visit durian orchards and experience other entertainment, such as glamping or jungle trekking.
