A Chinese couple has drawn widespread criticism online after a disruptive altercation with a flight attendant and fellow passengers on a Hong Kong Airlines flight from Bali.

The incident occurred on Feb. 7 when the couple, traveling with their two children, became involved in a dispute during a pre-takeoff safety check, Dimsum Daily reported.

The confrontation began when a flight attendant asked the woman to properly stow her handbag. She reacted angrily, insisting that no one was allowed to touch it.

Despite attempts by the flight attendant to explain safety regulations, she refused to comply, demanding that her HK$30,000 (US$3,850) handbag remain by her side. She later complained that the attendant had woken her up and tapped her shoulder.

Tensions escalated during the flight as other passengers became frustrated with the couple's disruptive behavior. At one point, the man reportedly called fellow passengers "trash people," The Standard reported.

As the couple disembarked, the woman deliberately bumped into other passengers on the boarding bridge, complaining that they were moving too slowly.

A video posted online showed the couple verbally abusing others, with the husband attempting to provoke a fight while the wife hurling insults at fellow passengers.

Hong Kong Airlines confirmed that "appropriate action had been taken against the passengers involved," according to the New York Post.

"Hong Kong Airlines takes flight safety and our passengers' travel experience very seriously. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our crew and passengers and have a zero-tolerance policy towards any disruptive behavior or breaches of the Aviation Security Ordinance," the airline stated.

Netizens condemned the couple's actions, with some calling for airlines to blacklist them to prevent future incidents.

"One delay or flight return because of them is already too much. Airlines should ban them," one person wrote.

"The captain should have made them disembark. Flight safety was at risk," someone else suggested.
