Authorities in Indonesia's popular resort island Bali have deported an American man for damaging a police car in Denpasar, after he was detained for 26 days.

The 44-year-old tourist has been placed on the entry ban list in accordance with Indonesian immigration law, Antara News Agency reported.

In mid-June, he wore a black long-sleeved shirt and white headgear and suddenly hit the car’s hood and damaged the vehicle. An investigation found that he committed the act spontaneously after losing his personal belongings, including his passport.

The video of him damaging the police car went viral on social media.

Bali, famous for its long beaches, turquoise waters and ancient temples, is hoping to receive 4.5 million international arrivals this year, in addition to 9 million domestic travelers.

However, Southeast Asia’s largest economy is tightening control of foreign tourists to boost its image.
