The HCMC Traffic Infrastructure Management Center is proposing a ban on trucks on the three roads leading to Tan Son Nhat Airport during certain hours of the day.

They should be banned on Truong Son, Hong Ha and Bach Dang streets from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. with effect from Sept. 1 since traffic exceeds their designed capacity, the proposal made to the city Department of Transport said.

The ban should be extended until 10 p.m. from 2025, it said.

Trucks will be banned in both directions on Truong Son. Bach Dang and Hong Ha are one-way streets.

The area has large warehouses that serve air cargo transport.

Once the ban goes into effect, the center said vehicles could enter and leave Warehouse 1 on Truong Son Street between 8 p.m. (or 10 p.m.) and 6 a.m.

Vehicles could go in and out of Warehouse 2 on Hau Giang Street and Warehouse 3 on Phan Thuc Duyen Street using alternative routes.

The center wants the Southern Airports Authority to persuade warehousing and other aviation-related services to relocate to streets such as Thang Long.

It also wants Thang Long and Hau Giang streets to be widened to make them dedicated roads for goods transport to and from the airport.

The Tan Son Nhat Airport neighborhood has been among the most congested in the city for years due to the sheer volume of traffic going through it every day.

The airport only has one entrance on Truong Son Street.
