On Monday night, teams of police officers were stationed on Phan Chu Trinh Street to check for alcohol level violations.

Officers requested a pickup truck to stop and have the driver, Tin, undergo a breathalyzer test.

However, Tin did not abide by the request and sped past the officers instead.

Police gave chase and while they were in pursuit Tin ran red lights and drove recklessly.

Officers managed to stop him three minutes into the chase on Le Dai Hanh Street. His alcohol level was 0.407 mg per liter, and he also tested positive for narcotics.

Tin said he had gotten drunk beforehand and "lost control."

"My behavior was dangerous," he said. "I know I was wrong, and I apologize to the officers and to the people."
