Malaysia aims to commercialize digital assets, which will be crucial to helping raise the digital economy’s share of GDP to 30% by 2030.

Malaysia’s Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said as more countries develop digital platforms to facilitate transactions, Malaysia must seize the opportunity to grow its digital asset ecosystem.

Constructive engagement between industry players and regulators is essential to shape effective governance structures, he added.

Gobind said Malaysia has regulatory frameworks in place under the Securities Commission and Bank Negara Malaysia, with the Digital Ministry playing a key role in coordinating policies. He added that such collaboration is vital in building confidence and ensuring that digital assets could contribute meaningfully to the economy.

Gobind said stronger infrastructure will be required to drive digital transformation and build confidence in digital assets, including stablecoins and blockchain applications.
