Losing VND200 million (US$7,900) in a cryptocurrency scam taught me a hard lesson about caution and avoiding greed.

I am a 30-year-old programmer. After 7 years of saving, I have accumulated 10 taels of gold and VND150 million, but I am still unsure of my next financial move.

Like many young professionals, I began my career with enthusiasm and ambition, working tirelessly to earn and invest. However, my eagerness led me to make risky decisions. Investing in cryptocurrency without fully understanding it resulted in a significant financial loss that left me devastated.

That experience changed my mindset. I stopped chasing quick profits and focused on long-term financial security. I began putting most of my salary into gold, ignoring short-term price fluctuations. Over time, my savings grew. Now, my holdings feel substantial—not excessive, but meaningful for an office worker like me.

Despite this, I remain uncertain about my next step. I still rent in Ho Chi Minh City and constantly debate whether to continue saving in gold, buy land in my hometown, or invest in an apartment on an installment plan. Each option carries risks, and I am still weighing my choices.

I share my story not to boast but to encourage others. If there is one lesson I have learned, it is that financial security comes from patience and steady progress—not from chasing quick riches.
