Mark Zuckerberg purchases $23M mansion near White House

According to Page Six, the purchase reflects a growing trend of tech executives seeking to establish a base in the capital during President Donald Trump's second term. The expansive mansion is also close to Vice President JD Vance’s official residence at the Naval Observatory.

The property, bought in March through a Delaware LLC with an all-cash deal, is the third-most expensive home purchase in Washington’s history, Politico reported.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed the transaction, telling The Post: "Mark and Priscilla have purchased a home in D.C., which will allow Mark to spend more time there as Meta continues the work on policy issues related to American technology leadership."

The 14,000-square-foot brick mansion, designed by acclaimed local architect Robert M. Gurney, sits on the site of a previous $5.15 million home, which was demolished in 2013. The new residence features five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, two kitchens and three fireplaces.

Comprising three distinct sections connected by a glass-covered walkway, the home blends modern design with traditional elements such as gable roofs, tall chimneys, and steel-framed windows. The exterior uses durable materials like brick and limestone walls, a slate roof, powder-coated steel windows and copper downspouts, carefully chosen to complement the neighborhood while ensuring longevity.

Outdoor amenities include a basketball court and swimming pool, both shielded by a newly built wall and fence for enhanced privacy and security. Nestled on nearly one acre in the leafy Massachusetts Avenue Heights neighborhood of Northwest D.C., the property is surrounded by landmarks such as the Washington National Cathedral and various embassies.

True to the neighborhood’s aesthetic, the house includes ample private outdoor space and lush greenery.

Zuckerberg’s move comes as several tech leaders establish footholds in Washington to influence the Trump administration.

David Sacks, Trump’s cryptocurrency adviser, purchased a $10.3 million home in January. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos acquired a $23 million mansion in 2016, while PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel spent $13 million on a home in 2021. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt bought a $15 million estate in 2024.

By contrast, billionaire Elon Musk, a key adviser to President Trump, opts against a permanent residence in D.C., preferring to sleep in his office in the Executive Office Building and frequently travel with Trump to Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

The timing of Zuckerberg’s purchase has sparked speculation. The Meta CEO was spotted at the White House on April 2, the same day news broke of Elon Musk’s planned departure from government service at the end of May, raising questions about Zuckerberg’s potential role as Trump's tech confidant.

However, Zuckerberg faces challenges ahead. Meta is heading to an antitrust trial in April, with the Federal Trade Commission considering a possible breakup of WhatsApp and Instagram. While a deal with the administration could ease the threat, President Trump may still see political advantage in targeting the tech giant.
