The 19th edition of World Pencak Silat Championship was the first major international tournament that Vietnam attended after SEA Games 31. The national pencak silat team of Vietnam competed in 18 weight classes of both demonstrative and competitive events.
After a week of competition, Vietnam won a total of six gold, two silver and 11 bronze medals. All six gold medals stemmed from competitive events.
Hoang Mai Anh won the first gold medal for the team after defeating a very strong Fransiska Dewi of Indonesia in the final of the women’s 85 kg event. Nguyen Duy Tuyen claimed gold after a dominating defeat against Thai boxer Pimpirat Tonkhieo in the final of the men’s 85 kg clash.
The remaining four gold medals belonged to Quang Thi Thu Nghia (women's 75 kg), An Thi Hoa (women's 80 kg), Le Van Toan (men's 95 kg) and Pham Tuan Anh (men's 70 kg).
Vietnam set the goal of winning four to five gold medals in this tournament.
The 2022 World Pencak Silat Championship took place from July 26 to 31 in Melaka (Malaysia) with 81 teams.
