Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the first edition will feature 14 male and eight female Vietnamese grandmasters with Elo ratings between 2,200 and 2,400 as awarded by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
According to the tournament format, each male contestant will play seven games while female players compete in a round robin format.
Male and female champions will receive a cash prize of VND200 million (over $8,600) and VND100 million, respectively.
The event, organized by Vietnam Sports Administration under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is scheduled to take place from March 10-17.
