Vietnam golf team wins 2024 Nomura Cup

The Vietnam golf team made history by winning the 30th Asia-Pacific Amateur Team Golf Championship - Nomura Cup, becoming the eighth country to have its name engraved on this prestigious trophy.

The victorious team comprised three standout golfers: Nguyen Anh Minh, Le Khanh Hung, and Ho Anh Huy, all of whom have demonstrated exceptional skills in both domestic and international tournaments.

Vietnam began the tournament with a strong start, finishing the first round in second place on the team leaderboard. Nguyen Anh Minh led the team with a score of -1, placing him tied for sixth in the individual rankings, while his teammates Ho Anh Huy and Le Khanh Hung scored even par and +2, respectively.

In the second round, Vietnam maintained its competitive edge, tying with New Zealand for second place at -8, just behind Japan at -10. Minh excelled with a bogey-free round and five birdies, raising his individual score to -5 and tying him for first place alongside Japan's Masayuki Yamashita.

By the third round, Vietnam surged to the top of both the team and individual leaderboards, concluding the day with a total team score of -12, one stroke ahead of Japan. Minh further strengthened his lead in the individual competition with an aggregate score of -7.

On the final day, Minh continued his impressive form, guiding Vietnam to victory with a total team score of -20, three strokes ahead of Japan. Minh also secured the individual championship with a total score of -12, two strokes ahead of Australia's Declan O'Donovan.

"This is a proud day for Vietnamese golf and the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC). Congratulations to the Vietnam team for such an impressive performance, especially since this is only Vietnam's second time participating in the Nomura Cup and the first time hosting the event," said Taimur Hassan Amin, Chairman of APGC, at the closing ceremony.

The 2024 Nomura Cup, held from Oct. 15 to 18 in Hai Phong, featured 19 teams from countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region. The tournament used a stroke-play format over four rounds of 18 holes, with each team consisting of three golfers. The team score was calculated based on the best two individual scores, and the lowest total after 72 holes determined the champion.

The Vietnam team's success at the 2024 Nomura Cup marks a new era for Vietnamese golf, showcasing the rising talents of its golfers and contributing to the sport's development in the country.
