Former tennis star Camila Giorgi has been accused of stealing antiques and failing to pay rent in Italy for six months before fleeing to the U.S.

Giorgi, 32, announced her surprising retirement from tennis last week via Instagram.

Before leaving her home country, Giorgi and her family lived in a rental property in Tuscany.

Italian newspaper La Repubblica recently reported that her landlord had accused her of not paying rent for six months and stealing furniture before leaving the property.

"She and her family made half of our furniture disappear," the landlord said, according to the newspaper. "Persian rugs, fine furniture and even an antique half-ton table. We are talking about damage between €50,000 and 100,000 (US$54,300-108,500)."

Last week, Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Giorgi and her family, including her father Sergio, mother Claudia, and her brothers Leandro and Amadeus, had left Tuscany for the U.S.

The landlord claimed that he had contacted Sergio to ask for the furniture back, but the father said they were "of little value."

Giorgi and members of her family are also under investigation by the Florence Prosecutor’s Office regarding unsubmitted tax returns.

During her lively tennis career, Giorgi competed in all four Grand Slam tournaments. Her best result was reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2018.

Her highest world ranking was 26th in 2018. In 2021, she reached the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics. Her other major athletic achievements also include winning four WTA Tour titles.

Outside of tennis, Giorgi models for several famous brands.
