Eight months after his historic achievement, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, will be celebrated through a special stamp release.
Yulo, 25, who clinched gold in both the floor exercise and vault events in Paris, joins a prestigious list of Philippine athletes honored through postage.
"That guy [Yulo] deserves a stamp," said Postmaster General Luis Carlos, who has been intent on honoring the gymnastics champion since August, Onenews PH reported.
In the same release, PhlPost will also unveil stamps featuring amateur boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, who each secured Olympic bronze medals in their respective weight classes. Petecio earned her bronze in the women’s 57kg event, while Villegas claimed hers in the 50kg category.
This marks the second stamp for Petecio, who was previously featured in 2021 after winning silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games stamp launch will be part of the National Philatelic Exhibition, a three-day event from April 23 to 25, held at the Lucky Chinatown Mall in Binondo, Manila. The exhibit will celebrate the art and culture of stamp collecting, showcasing works from 17 Philippine philatelists.
Yulo now joins the ranks of other iconic Philippine athletes who have been commemorated on stamps, including senator and former boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao, Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz and boxers Carlo Paalam and Eumir Marcial, who also claimed their medals at previous Olympics.
