Juan Stenner, who used to compete for Mexico national athletics team in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, suffered a stroke and died at the finish line of the Mexico City Half Marathon.

Stenner passed out after crossing the finish line on July 15. Despite receiving first aid, he stopped breathing on the way to the emergency room, Running Magazine reported.

At this tournament, Stenner did not wear a bib, which meant he did not register for the race. The organizers were unable to find the identity of this athlete, so they had no emergency contact of his relatives and no knowledge of his medical history.

Stenner competed for the Mexican national team in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, finishing sixth at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

He retired in 2018 and then switched to long-distance running. He loved the half marathon distance and participated in major events such as the New York Half Marathon or the Mexico City Half Marathon in 2019.

The organizers said more than 30,000 athletes participated in the 17th Mexico City Half Marathon this summer. 18-year-old Kenyan athlete Frederick Yeko Domongole won the men's event in 64 minutes and 37 seconds. In the women's event, Joyce Chepkemoi Tele set a new record of the tournament with 1 hour, 10 minutes and 34 seconds.
