Shelmith Nyawira Muriuki of Kenya finished first in the women’s 42-km category of the VnExpress Marathon in Quy Nhon with a time of 2 hours 47 minutes and 47 seconds on Sunday morning.

With an outstanding achievement, she has set the new record in the women's full marathon category in the VnExpress Marathon system.

Shelmith had almost no difficulty from other opponents even though this was her first time she had joined a marathon in Vietnam.

Only after reaching the finish line, Shelmith showed her loss of strength, when she lied down and received help from the medical team.

She had just arrived in Vietnam and had little time to adapt to the competition conditions.

She attended Kuala Lumpur Marathon 2022 and finished in 2 hours 44 minutes 16 seconds.

Her most impressive and memorable tournament was the 2019 Gran Canaria Marathon in Spain, where she set her personal best with 2 hours 33 minutes.

Organized in Quy Nhon, a popular beach town in central Vietnam, for the fourth time, this year’s marathon attracted 10,000 runners who began at 3 a.m., and ran along the city's most stunning coastal roads such as Xuan Dieu and Nguyen Tat Thanh, as well as Thi Nai Bridge, and Phuong Mai sand hill.
