Vietnam Golf Association hosts first VGA Awards

The awards, granted on Sunday, combined the results and achievements of national tournaments and Vhandicap scoring system in 2020, with 17 individuals and groups receiving prizes.

In the "Excellent Performance" category, honored golfers and collectives were Nguyen Dang Minh, Hanako Kawasaki, Tran Lam, 1982 Golf Club and Golf Life Club. Minh and Hanako respectively won National Open Men and Women Amateur Championship. Lam won the young amateurs tournament, while the two golf clubs scored trophies at national championships.

In the "Excellent Collective Contribution to Community" category, Hanoi Golf Association received the title of Best Golf Association for connecting the golfing community, while Ho Chi Minh City Golf Association ranked first in charity activities. Yen Dung Resort and Golf Club was voted "Most Challenging Golf Course" and Hoiana Shores Golf Club "Golf Course with Most Beautiful View."

The most admired golf course was Tan Son Nhat in HCMC. The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip in the nearby Ba Ria - Vung Tau was honored twice, in the service and maintenance categories.

In 2020, Vhandicap recognized a record of 18 holes in 66 strokes by golfer Nguyen Van Tam at FLC Ha Long, Le Minh Hoan at Sky Lake and Do Anh Duc at Tam Dao Stadium.

During the VGA Awards ceremony, Vietnam Golf Association (VGA) and its partners announced the Young Golf Development Fund. In the short term, the association commits to spend VND10 billion ($433,450) from its budget within two years.

"We aim to connect and support local associations to promote golf. Besides, more professional and amateur tournaments will also be organized. Young talent development is also a key focus of the association, in parallel with the training of professional coaching staff across the country," said Le Hung Nam, new VGA general secretary.
