The filing was confirmed by lawyers Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader and Puteri Ummi Kartini Abd Latiff, who represented the 27-year-old footballer during mention proceedings on Tuesday.
Akberdin said Faisal, who suffered injuries from an acid attack at a shopping mall on May 5 last year, was notified of the divorce application by the lawyer representing his wife, Nur Syazwani Mizuana Shahril.

"The divorce was filed under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law Enactment (Selangor), which covers mutually agreed divorces. However, as there had been a previous divorce declaration made out of court, we informed the court that this issue must first be resolved under Section 57 of the same enactment," he told New Strait Times.
Section 57 deals with the penalty for pronouncing divorce outside the court. Syarie judge Mohd Hairuddin Ab Rahim set Oct. 16 for the next mention.
Faisal, known as Mickey, sustained fourth-degree burns after an unidentified individual splashed acid on him at a shopping mall. The top scorer at the 2023 Asian Cup suffered severe burns on his neck, shoulder, hands and chest. He was in critical condition and underwent multiple surgeries, including an extensive skin graft.
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, urged authorities to quickly identify those responsible and expressed frustration over delays in the investigation, noting that modern technology should make the case easy to solve. Police later stated that the case required no further immediate action but vowed to continue their investigation.
