In their last AFC Champions League (ACL) 2021 game on Sunday, Viettel FC earned a 1-0 win against Filipino club Kaya-Iloilo.

Before playing Kaya, Viettel were already eliminated from the ACL group stage after only one win out of five games. Their only win was also against Kaya (5-0) earlier this month. Therefore, in this match, the Hanoi-based club only aimed to get three points to end their ACL journey with a good memory.

Viettel controlled the game from the very beginning. They made close and long-range attempts, creating many chances with high intensity. However, the capital club couldn't find the opener in the first half.

The goal only came in the 57th minute, when two Kaya players got red cards in just a few minutes after dangerous fouls on Nguyen Trong Hoang. And at the freekick spot, Brazilian Caique Lemes scored for Viettel.

In the rest of the match, Viettel players had other chances to increase the lead, but they couldn't convert them into goals. There were times that they had 80 percent of possession and four times the number of passes compared to Kaya, but the 1-0 score remained until the end.

Viettel concluded their run at ACL 2021, their first time ever at the competition, with six points after six games and peaked third in group F. Placing above them are ACL defending champions from South Korea, Ulsan Hyundai, and Thai champions BG Pathum United.

The team are expected to return to Vietnam on Monday and stay in quarantine for 21 days.
