To prepare for their World Cup Asian qualifiers in June, Vietnam will play Jordan in a friendly match on May 31.

"Vietnam Football Federation and Jordan Football Association have nearly completed negotiations on hosting an exhibition game between the two teams in UAE on May 31. Everything is 99.5 percent done, now we just have to discuss whether to allow spectators or not," Le Hoai Anh, VFF general secretary, told local media.

To enter United Arab Emirates (UAE), Vietnam and other teams would have to take Covid-19 tests 72 hours before flying there.

According to schedule, Vietnam will go to UAE on May 26, which means they would have to take their Covid-19 tests on the 24th. After arrival, the team will be tested once more. If the results are negative, the team would be allowed to leave the airport for their hotel.

On April 20, Vietnam national team players were vaccinated against Covid-19.

VFF said if the game takes place as planned, it would be a very valuable chance for Vietnam to test their squad before entering tough World Cup qualifiers in UAE.

Jordan are ranked 95th in the world, two places behind Vietnam. They are also competing for World Cup qualifiers in another group. In their three recent games with Jordan (all at Asian Cup), Vietnam won one and drew two.

Vietnam are topping group G of the World Cup Asian qualifiers with 11 points after five games. The Golden Dragons will enter the final round of the qualifiers for the first time in history if they score seven points from three games against Indonesia (June 7), Malaysia (June 11) and UAE (June 15).

The top eight teams of each group will advance to the final World Cup qualification round with four second-placed teams that scored the best results. All of them will automatically qualify for Asian Cup 2023.
