Despite not playing for a long time, Vietnam moved up one place in the latest FIFA rankings.

In the list announced on Wednesday, they moved up from 93rd to 92nd place after Lebanon lost to Jordan and drew against Kuwait in their recent matches to move down from 92nd to 93rd.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic Vietnam did not play a single match last year as the 2022 World Cup Asian qualifiers and AFF Cup were postponed to this year.

They continue to lead the Southeast Asian region, followed by Thailand (106th), who rose four places, the Philippines (125th), Myanmar (139th), and Malaysia (153rd).

This is Vietnam's second highest ranking ever behind only the 84th they achieved in September 1998.

Japan (28th) lead Asia, followed by Iran (31st) and South Korea (39th). Vietnam overtook Lebanon to place 13th in Asia.

The world's top five remained unchanged with Belgium on top followed by France, Brazil, England, and Portugal.

In 2021 Vietnam have a chance to climb further as they play World Cup qualifiers against Malaysia, Indonesia and the UAE in June.
