Lynda claimed she had left the item at the checkout counter, but store employees reviewed security footage and reported that she had not returned it. She later explained that she had been in a hurry and dropped it on the floor.
The case was filed at the Orlando Criminal Court on Jan. 6, with attorney Joel Leppard representing her. On Jan. 16, her lawyer filed a motion for dismissal under Florida’s criminal procedure rules, leading to the cancellation of a scheduled Jan. 21 hearing. Prosecutors are now reviewing evidence, including images, videos, and witness statements, before deciding on the next legal steps.
Under Florida law, theft of items valued between US$100 and US$299 is punishable by up to one year in jail and a US$1,000 fine.
Fellow artists in the U.S. said Lynda posted bail and has resumed her normal life, sharing photos of her recent performances on social media.
Lynda, 57, was born in the central city of Hue, Vietnam, and moved to the U.S. with her family in the 1970s. Known for her dynamic stage presence, she was often compared to Madonna. She is married to Vietnamese-born singer Tommy Ngo.
