HCMC FC announced the signing of V. League's most prolific striker Hoang Vu Samson on Tuesday.

Samson had a tough last season with Thanh Hoa FC. He started strong with three goals in five games for the club, but violent play in the sixth round got him sidelined for a long time. The 33-year-old striker was fined VND15 million ($660) and suspended for three games. Thanh Hoa also removed him from the squad for six games.

Later, an intense argument developed between Samson and Thanh Hoa. The club even accused Samson of match-fixing, saying he had missed too many chances to score and asked for a police investigation. Samson said he would take legal action against Thanh Hoa if the club tries to ruin his image. Eventually, both sides settled peacefully.

With Samson in the squad, HCMC hopes to end their goal draught. The club has spent a lot on foreign strikers in recent seasons but none could prove their worth.

Samson is the most prolific striker in the history of V. League with 173 goals after 238 games during his 14 years in Vietnam. The striker became a naturalized Vietnamese citizen in 2013.

HCMC also recruited Tran Minh Chien as the new head coach, after parting ways with Brazilian coach Alexandre Polking, who was recently appointed as Thailand national team coach for AFF Cup 2021.
