"When I became UAE head coach, I said my goal was to get the team to the final World Cup qualifying round. I also emphasized I want to win every game with UAE. That goal has not been changed and I think we are going the right way," Marwijk said in the pre-match interview Monday night.
With 15 points after seven games, UAE are two points behind the table leader Vietnam. To avoid ending in second place, they must win against Vietnam.
History is leaning towards UAE, who have won four, drawn two and lost two of seven encounters with Vietnam. In their last clash, UAE lost 0-1 to Vietnam.
"The game with Vietnam is very important, but I know what to do. Of course, it won’t be easy. We were a bit unlucky to play with 10 men in the first leg and lose 0-1. However, compared to the squad in November 2019, UAE are a lot stronger now. In football, pressure is inevitable. But we need it because it brings out the best in us. We know how to win this crucial game," he stressed.
The UAE used the same formation in their three wins against Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, and Marwijk has no intention to change it in the Vietnam clash.
"I think there is no reason for us to change the victory formula. UAE will play as usual and win," Marwijk said.
The game will start at 11:45 p.m. Hanoi time and will be reported live on VnExpress International.
