After the match on Saturday, which Thailand won 1-0, the players walked around the stadium to thank their supporters. However, they suddenly paused when coach Ishii said something before heading directly to the tunnel and into the locker room. His reaction surprised players and fans. Lamsam, commonly known as Madame Pang, after speaking briefly with Ishii’s interpreter, continued to walk with the players around Thammasat Stadium.
According to Thairath, Ishii instructed the players and staff not to spend too much time on post-match celebrations. He wanted them to rest early, given their upcoming away match against Singapore in just three days. The Japanese coach suggested a simpler gesture of standing in the center of the pitch to thank the fans, rather than a full lap around the stadium. However, Madame Pang was reportedly unaware of Ishii's intentions.
"When the issue arose, Ishii avoided speaking out, likely to prevent any further misunderstanding," Thairath wrote. "Both sides acted in what they believed was best for the team, it was simply a difference of opinion."
The incident quickly became a trending topic in Thai media, sparking debate among fans. Many supported Madame Pang's commitment to honoring fans, calling it an essential gesture of respect. Others defended Ishii, arguing that as head coach, he should have full authority over team matters with no interference.
Madame Pang, however, denied any conflict with coach Ishii. She emphasized the importance of fans to the team, referring to them as the "12th player," and highlighted the contribution of major fan clubs such as CheerThai Power, Thailand Hardcore and Ultras Thailand.
"Over my 16 years of working in football, respecting the fans has always been the right thing to do," Madam Pang wrote on her Facebook. "I believe in trust, honor and mutual respect."

On Sunday morning, before the team departed for Singapore, coach Ishii admitted his frustration and explained his actions.
"I have not spoken to Madame Pang directly but have sent a text to apologize," he said. "I also want to apologize to the fans for my behavior."
Ishii acknowledged the need for better communication, stating that he usually consults Madam Pang before making decisions but failed to do so this time.
"I wanted the players to be fully rested, as it’s crucial for the team’s success. However, I realize I need to communicate more effectively with Madame Pang."
Thailand are currently leading group A in the 2024 ASEAN Cup, with victories over Timor-Leste (10-0) and Malaysia (1-0). They are tied on six points with Singapore and will face this opponent in an away match on Tuesday.
Madam Pang, 57, is a businesswoman, politician and heiress to the Thai billionaire family Lamsam. She was the leader of Thailand national football team before becoming FAT president earlier this year.
