Nguyen Huy Hoang broke two national records in the 400 and 1500 meter freestyles at 2021 FINA World Swimming Championships on Monday night.

Hoang competed in his favorite event, the 1500 meter freestyle with 29 other swimmers from around the world. He swam in round two and finished in 14 minutes and 41 seconds.

Although he didn’t make it to the final, Hoang broke the national record that he established in 2019 with 14 minutes and 44.55 seconds.

In the 400 meter freestyle, Hoang peaked 23th out of 63 swimmers with a result of 3 minutes and 43.89 seconds, which helped him break another national record he scored in 2019 with 3 minutes and 44.92 seconds.

With the results, Hoang is expected to win multiple gold medals for Vietnam at SEA Games 31.

Vietnam attended the tournament in Abu Dhabi, UAE with six athletes.

After the tournament, the athletes will return to Vietnam and prepare for SEA Games 31 in May 2022.
