As a result, Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) will not be crowned champions despite topping the table with 29 points after the first half of the season. Bottom placed club Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) also won’t be relegated.
VFF will use the result after 12 rounds of the season to report to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), suggesting HAGL be made eligible to represent Vietnam at AFC Champions League next year.
V. League 2021 has been postponed since May 7 after SLNA players had indirect contact with a Covid-19 patient. Vietnam Professional Football JSC (VPF) planned to resume the league on July 31 but had to postpone it again due to the new Covid-19 outbreak. Organizers later purposed to shift the schedule to February. Although VPF approved, many clubs opposed the move, saying the financial damage for 14 clubs during months of waiting can go up to millions of dollars.
On Aug. 21, VFF decided to cancel the league with the agreement of the clubs.
