Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a message of peace to U.S. President Donald Trump with a signed jersey through President of European Council Antonio Costa.

During a sideline meeting at the G7 Summit in Canada on June 16, Costa presented Trump with a Portugal national team jersey of Ronaldo's iconic number 7. The jersey featured a handwritten message from the football superstar that read: "To President Donald J. Trump. Playing for peace."

Trump responded positively and said: "I like it, playing for peace," as he smiled, posed for a photo, and held up the jersey, ESPN reported.

The 79-year-old president made only a brief appearance at the G7, meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to sign a trade agreement before returning to the U.S. a day early.

According to FIFA, Trump also intends to attend matches at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which are taking place in the States. Ronaldo, however, is not participating in the tournament, despite FIFA President Gianni Infantino encouraging clubs to sign him for the occasion.

Trump once asked about Ronaldo in a 2018 meeting with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at the White House: "...They say he is the greatest player. So, tell me, how good a player is he? "Are you impressed?"

President de Sousa replied, "I’m very much impressed. He’s the best player [in] the world," as quoted by CNN.

Ronaldo remains under contract with Saudi club Al Nassr until the end of June 2025.

If Portugal qualify, he is expected to lead the team at the 2026 World Cup, hosted by Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. His last appearance in the U.S. was in August 2014.
