Hundreds of Polish fans stood up to celebrate a goal with Cristiano Ronaldo, despite him scoring against their home team during the 2024 Nations League match, creating a viral moment on social media last weekend.

In the 37th minute, Ronaldo scored his second goal for Portugal with a simple tap-in, making it 2-0. He then ran towards a section of Polish fans, waved his fingers in the air, and encouraged them to join his celebration. As Ronaldo performed his signature leap, the crowd enthusiastically joined in, chanting "siuuu" in unison.

While some fans responded sarcastically, most were cheering for the Portuguese captain, with many even mimicking Ronaldo's hand gestures.

The celebration video quickly attracted millions of views online, receiving positive reactions from fans. Many were surprised by the fact that, despite Poland being down by two goals at the time, the home crowd seemed more focused on celebrating with Ronaldo.

"The loudest cheers came when we celebrated with Ronaldo," one Polish fan wrote on X. "Even when the crowd cheered for Poland at the national stadium in Warsaw, it wasn't as loud. This just shows how influential Ronaldo is."

Before the match, hundreds of Polish fans surrounded Portugal's team bus as it arrived at Kazimierz Gorski Stadium. When Ronaldo appeared and waved, the crowd erupted in excitement.

Ronaldo has faced Poland five times and scored twice against them. His goal on Saturday marked his first against Poland since the Euro qualifiers on Sept. 8, 2007, at Da Luz Stadium in Lisbon. Ronaldo has also scored in Warsaw before, netting a goal against the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals of Euro 2012, leading Portugal to a 1-0 victory.

In the Nations League match on Saturday, Portugal defeated Poland 3-1, maintaining their winning streak with nine points in Group A1. Poland sits in third place with three points, three behind second-place Croatia, keeping their hopes alive for reaching the quarterfinals. Scotland remains at the bottom after losing all three matches.

The Nations League is an official UEFA tournament with four divisions—A, B, C, and D. Division A includes 16 teams, divided into four groups of four, competing in a round-robin format to determine the top eight teams that advance to the quarterfinals. Portugal was the tournament's first champion in the 2018-2019 season, followed by France and Spain.
