Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa, known as Endrick, replaced Jude Bellingham in the 80th minute and got a goal in the fifth minute of injury time. The Brazilian striker dribbled from Madrid’s before shooting with his left foot from about 20 m, sending the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Alexander Nubel.
At 18 years and 58 days old, Endrick is the youngest Real Madrid player to score in the Champions League, breaking the record set by the legendary Raul Gonzalez against Ferencvarosi TC in 1995, when he scored a hat-trick at 18 years and 113 days old.
Endrick was delighted to score on his very first Champions League appearance and helped Madrid get off to a perfect start.
"I came on, played on the right and in the first chance, I passed to Vinicius but he didn't score. In the next play, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius were open for a pass but the best option was to finish," Endrick said about his goal.
Endrick, born in 2006, was the most expensive 16-year-old player of all time when he signed to Real Madrid for a transfer fee of $76 million in December 2022. But the Brazilian striker stayed at Palmeiras for two more years before officially joining Madrid this summer when he turned 18.
On Aug. 25, Endrick also scored his first goal in La Liga in the sixth minute of injury time after coming off the bench, sealing a 3-0 win over Valladolid in the second round. At 18 years and 35 days, Endrick became the youngest foreign player to score for Madrid in La Liga, breaking the old record of center-back Raphael Varane at 18 years and 152 days.
Endrick had a memorable week as he announced his marriage to 23-year-old model Gabriely Miranda on Monday.
Before Endrick sealed the 3-1 victory for Madrid, Mbappe and Rudiger scored, while Stuttgart's only goal was by Denis Undav. In the second round of the Champions League group stage, Madrid will visit Lille, while Stuttgart will return home to host Sparta Praha.
