Claudecir dos Reis Rodrigues Júnior, commonly known as Claudecir, failed to convert two penalties in a V. League match Sunday, leading to his club Hong Linh Ha Tinh’s defeat.

Hong Linh lost 1-2 to Than Quang Ninh in the opening round of V. League. In the 33rd minute, Claudecir was fouled inside the box, and the referee rewarded Ha Tinh a penalty. The 31-year-old’s shot subsequently went wide.

With Claudecir’s miss, Ha Tinh failed to extend their lead. Earlier in the game, they got the opener by Tran Phi Son. Witnessing the inaccurate penalty, Ha Tinh coach Pham Minh Duc could do little but provide a sheepish smile.

In stoppage time of the first half, Claudecir had the chance to redeem himself when Ha Tinh were awarded another penalty. However, the Brazilian failed to put enough power into his shot, which the Quang Ninh keeper easily saved.

Quang Ninh scored two goals to turn the tied in the last eight minutes of the game.

Claudecir is renowned in the V. League, having played in Vietnam since 2016. He won the domestic club title with Quang Nam FC in 2017. The forward became the top scorer of the season with 12 goals. However, he lost his form during the next two seasons, scoring only six goals.

The Brazilian moved to Hai Phong FC at the start of the 2020 before being loaned to Quang Ninh in the second phase. Claudecir joined Ha Tinh in the transfer window for the 2021 season.
