Speaking on Hard Rock Bet, Tyson, 59, said he is in a much better physical and mental state as he approaches his 60th birthday.

"I'm getting more and more confident, and I believe I'll be better in the [Mayweather] fight coming up," Tyson said.

Tyson is seeking redemption from his loss to Paul in November 2024. The fight, held at AT&T Stadium, saw Paul win a clear unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73, 79-73) over eight rounds. Paul, who is 31 years younger, landed 78 of 278 punches (28%), while Tyson landed just 18 of 97 (19%).

Tyson now claims he was not at his best for that bout, citing both overtraining and health issues.

"I didn't want to use that for an excuse, but I had some real bad health problems," Tyson added. "But I'm fine now. I have no excuses. I feel good right now, this is the best I've felt. I can't wait to start getting in the ring. I learned [a lot] from my last fight."

The former heavyweight champion believes he has learned a lesson in self-control.

"I left a lot of my fight in the gym. I worked too hard. I was too intense; I was too extreme. I need to relax more. That's what I always believe. I need to relax more," he said.

Before any potential rematch with Paul, Tyson is focused on his exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather. Tyson confirmed the two reached an agreement in September for a match in March or April 2026.

"[My fight with Mayweather] is going to supersede all the fights and all the glory he had before this," Tyson said. "This is taking boxing to a new level. Almost God status."

The fight's schedule could be complicated by reports that Mayweather is also negotiating a 2026 rematch with Manny Pacquiao, organized by Netflix, talkSPORT reported.

Tyson, who became the youngest heavyweight champion in history in 1986, holds a professional record of 50 wins (44 KOs) and 6 losses. Paul, a YouTuber-turned-boxer, has a professional record of 11 wins and one loss, to Tyson Fury’s younger brother Tommy in 2023.
