Paul has moved up to the heavyweight division to face Tyson in a high-profile crossover bout at AT&T Stadium, Texas, which will exclusively air on Netflix. The Youtuber is determined to make the event a spectacle, spending lavishly on a ring outfit he claims is the most expensive in boxing history.
Ahead of the showdown, Paul drew a massive crowd and media presence to the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas, on Tuesday evening for an open workout, wearing a chicken head costume and interacting with the crowd, The Guardian reported.
Paul, infamous for his eccentric ring walks and flashy attire, spoke about his outfit for the big fight with Tyson on the Talk Tuah podcast.
"This outfit that I’ve made for the fight is the most expensive fight outfit in the history of boxing," Paul said. "It’s $1 million, it costs a pretty penny, and it is very shiny, that’s the hints I’ll give."
Paul also teased a grand entrance, saying: "For the walkout, I'm going to be driving in a certain vehicle to the ring, and the rest you are going to have to wait and see. The song is kind of relating to Mike Tyson’s career and a film that he did."
Known as "Iron Mike" and one of the greatest boxers of all time, Tyson, 58, retired in 2005 but returned for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. He has remained in great physical condition since, although this match, a professional one, will be a real challenge considering the age gap between him and Paul.
Paul, 27, who has won 10 of his 11 professional bouts, suffered his only loss to Tyson Fury’s brother Tommy in a split decision last year.
Originally scheduled for July, Tyson and Paul's fight was postponed after Tyson experienced an ulcer flare-up and had to seek medical attention.
