Tran Thi Doan Trang, 27, has lost her chance to qualify for the Winter Olympics 2022 qualification after contracting Covid-19 a day before the competition.

As planned, Trang was supposed to compete in the qualifiers in Winterberg, Germany on January 14.

While she is in stable health at the moment, her contracting the virus is an unfortunate development for the bobsleigh sport in Vietnam, because it was said that Trang had a great chance to qualify.

Trang used to be the top female moto racer in the country, before switching to bobsleigh. Before the Olympics qualifiers, Trang had shared her aspirations on social media. "If I can represent Vietnam, that will be my proudest moment," she wrote.

The 2022 Winter Olympics will take place in Beijing February 4-20 with a record 109 events in 15 disciplines seven sports.
