Queen Suthida of Thailand drew attention with her refined fashion choices during a visit to Japan, combining royal elegance with contemporary style across engagements.
The 48-year-old queen visited Japan from Oct. 14 to 22 on her first overseas trip as Global Ambassador for Women’s Ice Hockey for the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
Upon arriving at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido on Oct. 14, Queen Suthida personally piloted the royal aircraft before driving herself to her hotel in Sapporo, reportedly surprising local officials.
Her arrival outfit featured a striking houndstooth coat over a monochromatic ensemble, paired with wide-leg trousers and a matching clutch.
A fitted belt and coordinated pumps completed the sophisticated look, which drew praise from the media for its blend of elegance and modernity.
On Oct. 15, the queen attended the opening match of the IIHF Women's Asia Championship between Japan and Kazakhstan at Tsukisamu Ice Arena. She later put on ice skates and stepped onto the rink, demonstrating her puck-handling skills to an enthusiastic crowd.
For the sporting event, Suthida wore a textured tweed jacket with neutral-colored trousers. She styled her hair in a high ponytail instead of her usual updo, creating a more casual, sporty appearance.
On the afternoon of Oct. 18, the queen returned to the ice rink to present medals to the championship's top finishers.
She chose a tailored suit featuring an asymmetrical, cape-like shoulder detail that added a contemporary twist to the classic design.
Later that evening, Suthida attended the IIHF Women's Asia Championship Gala Dinner in an off-the-shoulder gown featuring soft volume and diagonal draping that gave the dress a graceful, flowing appearance.
Spanish magazine Hola drew attention to her glittering gemstone earrings, which complemented her evening look. She wore her hair in loose waves, adding a glamorous finishing touch.
On Oct. 20, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako welcomed Queen Suthida to the Tokyo Imperial Palace. For the royal meeting, she selected a slate-blue tailored suit with pointed pumps, achieving a polished, understated appearance that respected diplomatic protocol without drawing attention away from her hosts.
Throughout her Japan visit, Queen Suthida demonstrated a preference for muted colors, structured tailoring and carefully coordinated accessories. Her wardrobe choices reflected an ability to balance individual expression with the formality expected of royal engagements.
