Head coach Park Hang-seo said Vietnam still have a lot to improve after they beat Myanmar 1-0 in the third game of SEA Games 31 football on Friday.

"Myanmar didn’t use the 4-1-4-1 formation as usual and they switched to play with three center-backs. I have been expecting this," Park said in the press conference after the game. "All players understood the strategy but didn’t execute it well, especially the passing. This is a lesson for them to learn and grow."

Vietnam pushed forward right from the start but it was not easy for them to find a way through Myanmar’s defense. Despite making many crosses and taking many corners, Vietnam didn’t succeed once. The players were also too eager in handling situations, especially when they tried to finish.

Not until Le Van Do was subbed in that Vietnam came alive in their attacks. In the 75th minute, Van Do set captain Do Hung Dung in a comfortable position to score the only goal of the game.

"The final result is 1-0 for Vietnam. But I think that we didn’t play well, not only in the first but also the second half. There are many reasons but it’s mainly because of the false passes and poor movement. There were some situations that needed composure but the players didn’t have it," he added.

Van Do started in the game with Philippines but didn’t meet Park’s requirement and he was subbed out. In this game, Do stayed on the bench and when Park gave him a chance, he responded it with an assist to help Vietnam win.

"I always believe in my players. I chose them because they are good," Park said.

With this victory, Vietnam climbed to the top of group A with seven points. In the last group stage game on Sunday, the team will face Timor Leste, who are considered the weakest in group A and they have already been eliminated.

However, Park stayed alert and showed respect to the opponent. He said Vietnam will have to assess the current state of the squad and make the decisions for the next game.
