Vietnam bag 205 gold medals at SEA Games

Vietnam won 25 gold medals on Sunday, including a much-anticipated men's football gold, to wrap up their SEA Games run at the top of the medal table with 205 gold.

The hosts broke the record of 194 gold set by Indonesia in 1997.

Thailand are second in the table with 92 golds and Indonesia third with 69.

Vietnam's men's football team defended their gold medal with a 1-0 victory against Thailand. They kept the clean sheet throughout the Games. Indonesia won the men's football bronze by beating Malaysia in penalty shootout.

Muay and diving each won Vietnam five gold medals on Sunday.

Vietnam also won three boxing gold during the day in three women's events.

Aerobic gymnastics brought two gold medals in mix pair and group events, and esports another two.

On Sunday, there are 61 sets of medals, of which boxing has the most with 13.

Tennis ace Ly Hoang Nam defended his gold medal after beating Trinh Linh Giang, also from Vietnam, in the final.

Tran Quyet Chien, Vietnam's number one cueist and world's number three, beat his fellowman Nguyen Duc Anh Chien in the 3-cushion carom event final to win a gold medal.

Vietnam also won a gold medal each in shooting and vovinam.

In the morning, Vietnam won two cycling gold, in the women's individual and women's team events.

Outstanding athlete

The Games' technical team has nominated four for the outstanding athlete title. They are Vietnam's swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, Vietnam's runner Nguyen Thi Oanh, Singapore's swimmer Jing Wen Quah and Thailand's runner Joshua Robert Atkinson.
